Leadership

It is critical to the success of this year’s team that we all understand the Commitment and Sacrifice that we all must make to insure the level of success that we strive to achieve. There are many good teams in our division and the margin for error is extremely small, therefore taking any small thing for granted might be the stone that breaks our back. You as a member of this team have a responsibility to do what it takes for us to become successful both on and off the ice. If we all have this same approach, we will have the same degree of success.

Leadership is a key ingredient to any team and captains are not the only people responsible. Everyone must do his part to pull the team together to avoid problems. Upper classmen, it is your responsibility to make sure that the team is following the path towards a championship to keep everyone focused and committed.

The glory games come in February and March but as of NOW each game is one step towards our goal. We are a TEAM and everything we do reflects our commitment towards the TEAM. Our goals are to come together as a team, to function as a single unit and to strive together with the same determination. If you can meet these goals we will be one of the top teams in Mid-States Hockey.

General Rules

  • Respect yourself, your teammates, your coaches, your opponents and anyone you may meet or become associated with. Respect others’ property, beliefs or things important to them.
  • Enjoy Vianney for what it stands for and everything it can give you – from the beginning as a freshman to whatever level you wish to pursue. You will learn to enjoy working hard because of the results that are received and achieved through hard work.
  • Grades must be kept up to standards as specified by Vianney High School in order to play.
  • Remember that what you do on and off the ice affects the school, handle yourselves with respect and class.
  • Substance use and abuse will not be tolerated in any way

Games and Practices

  • Be on time! For games, players must be IN the locker room at least ½ hour before game time and be ready to play. For practices, players must be fully dressed and ready to go at least 5 minutes before the ice time starts.

IF THERE IS A LEGITIMATE REASON YOU SUSPECT YOU WILL BE LATE OR UNABLE TO ATTEND, CALL US IMMEDIATELY
  • Wait until the Zamboni gates are closed before stepping onto the ice.
  • Your work ethic in practice will show through in games, you perform in a game like you perform in a practice. Contrary to what some may believe, emotion and intensity is not something you turn off and on like a light bulb. BE MENTALLY READY FOR BOTH GAMES AND PRACTICES.

NOTE: A violation of the team rules will result in a variation of individual and team sanctions, ranging from heavy skating to benching and suspensions. All disciplinary action will be decided upon by the Vianney Hockey Coaching Staff and board as necessary.

RE: Coach’s Update

Hello Everyone,

I would like to take a moment to say what a pleasure it has been coaching Vianney Hockey thus far. With the regular season fast approaching, the coaching staff is very excited in anticipation of a very successful year for our organization. I personally would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts, the board who has done a wonderful job setting up tournaments and taking care of all of the Club’s business needs, the parents for your time and dedication, the coaching staff for all of your leadership, and to the players for their continued efforts both on and off the ice, you should be proud.

From a coach’s standpoint, I see the players developing on a regular basis both in skill and in team play. We are very focused on teaching discipline, teammanship, and respect for everyone involved in the game including officials and opponents, as these are very necessary to any club’s success. The team play has continued to improve with each game, our passing is much improved, our puck possession is increasing, our scoring chances are happening more often, and our defensive play is much improved. This is a direct result of the efforts that the players are exerting in both games and more importantly in practices. With this steady improvement, I foresee a very successful season upcoming. This is happening on all three teams, and I would like to commend the players for their desire, dedication, and hard work, you should be proud of yourselves. We still have lots of work to do, but with the positive attitudes and strong work ethic I have seen, we will achieve our goals we have set for ourselves.

One last item to mention in closing is to the parents, please lead us in the stands, and support us by cheering loud and proud. On the other hand, please do NOT yell at the officials or opponents, as tough as it may be at times, as this is a reflection of our players and our Vianney Hockey Club of which you are a large part. The discipline starts with you in the stands, please lead us from there. Thank you to everyone and here’s to a great season.

Best regards,

Jason Wist
