JV SENDS LATE SEASON MESSAGE WITH 2-2 TIE TO #1 JV SLUH

The Vianney JV team lost on Sun. Jan. 31, 2010 by a final score of 2-6 at the hands of the Lafayette Lancers.  Ten penalties spelled trouble for the JV Griffins as the referee called a rather tight game.  Vianney allowed 3 goals on the first 4 shots, and found themselves down 1-3 after the first period.  From there Vianney never really got it going, and that was the difference. Nick Bonastia started in goal but was lifted and replaced by Alex Naeger. Shots on goal favored Lafayette 18-23.  Vianney goals were Kyle Kopp from Jack Klagas and Matt Boning and Tommy Dapron from Doug Morgan. The JV Team will set their sights on avenging the loss as they face off in their last regular season game vs. SLUH on Mon. Feb. 1, 2010 at 8:15 pm at the South County Recreation Complex.

The Junior Varsity Griffins faced off in their last regular season game on Mon. Feb. 1, 2010 against none other then the league leading SLUH Jr. Billikens. And the message sent was, the JV Griffins are ready for the playoffs. A great overall performance by the entire Griffin team led to a 2-2 tie. The Vianney goalkeeper, Alex Naeger had his best outing of the season stopping 17 of 19 Jr. Bills shots. Vianney was clearly the more active team offensively as they poured 28 shots on the SLUH net. Goals were scored by Andrew Wingbermuehle from Brandon Schlichtig and Jack Klages then Matt Flanery from Brandon Schlichtig and Andrew Wingbermuehle. "Coming out of this game with a tie against the first place team is great momentum for this team." commented Vianney JV Head Coach, Corey Schaeffer. "The boys need to take this momentum right into the playoffs."

JUNIOR VARSITY RANKS #7 ENTERING PLAYOFFS
After a successful regular season the JV Griffins final ranking took an interesting turn. At the finish of the regular season, the Vianney JV team was tied in every catagory with the Kirkwood JV team. Five levels deep in the tie breakers was overall "Goals For". Vianney scored three more goals then Kirkwood earning the Griffins the #7 ranking and positioning them to face off against the Desmet - White JV team on Sunday Feb. 14, 2010 @ 8:45 pm at The Forum Ice Arena. This "Valentines Day Showdown" gives the JV Griffins their third shot this season of playing the Desmet White team. Desmet has won the first two games and Vianney will seek revenge at the best time of the season...playoff time!
